SPORTS INVOLVEMENT

While pursuing my degree in Public Relations at Syracuse University, I developed a passion for the sports industry. During my sophomore year, I explored put my interests into action by declaring my minor in Sports Management through the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University.

In the past two years, I’ve challenged myself to understand and absorb as much of the sports industry as possible through courses such as Sports Communications, Principles of Sport Hospitality Management, Psycho-Social Issues in Sport and Sports PR and Athlete Advocacy. I also took advantage of my time spent abroad in London, England by taking the Syracuse London Sports in the United Kingdom course.

Growing up in the age of “new media,” communicating with mass audiences on social platforms to create awareness for and draw attention to the mission and goals of a brand is a concept drilled into my social media practices. New technology will always present challenges and force us to adapt to a new way of thinking and doing, but the power of its reach should never be undermined. The sports industry has benefitted and will continue to thrive off of new media technologies in its communications models. Through my coursework and constant research on the industry, I actively understand how different media communications tools interact with and drive the messaging for the sports industry.

As I continue to make connections with professionals active in the field, I am actively applying to graduate programs hoping to pursue my Master's Degree in marketing, business administration, or project management. While I apply to these programs, I am also looking for internships with sports teams in areas local to my potential graduate programs. In doing this, I hope to make connections in the industry while gaining more academic knowledge to bring to the table.
