Honey, I'm Home!

You might not be majoring in interior decorating or have thousands to drop on the new West Elm 2020 furniture collection, but making your dorm room or apartment look like it came out of a catalog is cheaper than you think. Coming home at the end of a long day of exams, group project meetings and running all over campus trying to get your life together is one of the best feelings in the world. But coming home to a room or apartment decorated to make you feel relaxed, happy and comfortable is even better. To turn your dorm or apartment into something a little more inviting without feeling like you need to rob a bank to do so, follow these tips and tricks:

Posters

Decorating dorm or apartment walls with posters can help fill space while adding some of your personality and style to the walls. I usually find good posters on Redbubble and take advantage of the 20% off when signing up for emails. Syracuse University vlogger Margot Lee includes tips to make your dorm room at school stylish and cute in this room tour video. Notice the posters on her wall that help make the room more exciting!

Lights

Buying cheap string lights instead of expensive lamps to add to brightness to your space is always a good move. Good quality lamps that are also aesthetically pleasing can add a lot of extra digits to the end of your shopping receipt. But, string lights can easily be hung with a thumbtack - instead of expensive command strips - and will light up a room brighter than a table or standing lamp. They also take up wall space and look great hanging up. Check out this article for cool ways to make string lights work for your room space!

HomeGoods

If you’re down to do some digging, HomeGoods is a great option for inexpensive room and apartment decorations. I consider HomeGoods a hit or miss so don’t get discouraged if you don’t find anything you like on the first visit. If you have the time to make a couple of trips, you could end up with some great decorations for your apartment or dorm.

Get Crafty

Repurposing things you already have at home can help you save huge numbers in the end. If you have old pillows inserts at home, find cheap pillow covers on Amazon to make them fit your color scheme is a great way to add some extra decor to your space. Making a DIY bar cart is also a lot easier than you might think. You can easily find cheap carts at home depot or HomeGoods and repurpose them to look stylish with paint (check out this article to learn how)! Making your own artwork can also add some color and fun to your walls without breaking the bank. Pinning or taping old postcards to the walls, in a frame or just by themselves, can also add take up plain wall space and give it some personality.

Sale Season

Take advantage of back-to-school sales, black Friday sales, post-Christmas sales, etc. Never feel like you have to pay full price for anything! Planning ahead and buying a great piece on sale will help you be more prepared for move-in day while saving you bundles at the same time.

Using these tips can help you save bundles when trying to make your apartment or dorm look like a comforting space instead of the dungeon you walked into on move-in day. Remember to continue using Honey and UNiDAYS from my last post to get additional discounts when you order online!
